Smartermail 7.x to 8.x migration

    We are running 2 smartermail servers.

    1. "Old" server running smartermail 7.0 and working fine.

    2. "New" server running smartermail 8.4.

    We are attempting to migrate our email to this new server. It has been a disaster unfortunately. We confirmed with the hosting.com techs that if we followed the steps here : http://portal.smartertools.com/KB/a1461/migrate-smartermail-to-a-different-server.aspx it wouldn't matter that we were migrating from a 7.x box to a 8.x box since smartermail supposedly has great backwards compatibility.

    Long story short it hasn't worked out. Smartermail can't bind to any IP addresses except 127.0.0.1 on the new server even though we have updated them in the smartermail domain settings on the new server. The logs show these errors :

    10:04:03 System.Net.Sockets.SocketException (0x80004005): The requested address is not valid in its context
    at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.DoBind(EndPoint endPointSnapshot, SocketAddress socketAddress)
    at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.Bind(EndPoint localEP)
    at TcpServerLib.Pooled.PooledTcpServer.#QBc(IPEndPoint )

    It's basically happening because smartermail is having a hard time "forgetting" the old IP addresses even though they are not bound to any of the domains anymore. They are showing up in the bindings--> IP addresses menu even though smartermail says "this IP was not found on this server" when you click it.

    What is the best way forward here? Upgrade the old smartermail to Smartermail 8.4 and then migrate? The smartermail is 11 GB so we would much rather not have to do the copy again.

    I migrate people to our server from all versions of smartermail with ease. All I ever do is copy the domain folder and then add it to the domains.xml file and restart the smartermail service that's it. Have never had a problem.
